Okay, this is a somewhat off the wall and limited topic. But it is something I see a lot here in the Philippines. So I want to talk specifics about how one uses Air Conditioning (AC), as this can have a huge effect on the household budget.
(more…)Today I’m going to set up an Obsidian task system from scratch, focused on the tasks that still manage to find their way to my desk, even in retirement. Getting organized will help me capture things quickly and come back to them later without thinking too hard.
Obsidian is primarily a note-taking application, which isn’t strange since I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now to keep my daily journal. Thats how long it took me to develope the habit of writing in it every day.
Today I’m building a task management system alongside my journaling system. If I can get this working, the next step will be projects. Somewhere along the way, I’ll also want to look at theming and CSS snippets. But not today.
Since I covered the Map of Content and Journaling in a previous tutorials, I’ll copy those items from my main vault.
In the spirit of not dragging this out too long, let’s get to it!
I decided to replace my Arlo cameras today. They did not break; Arlo changed the rules, and some cameras stopped working.
Recently, one of my Arlo cameras stopped appearing in the Arlo app and web dashboard. I replaced the battery, resynced the camera, and the app confirmed it was active.
Then, immediately, the app warned me I had “too many cameras” and I needed a subscription upgrade. This was especially frustrating because Arlo advertises “Unlimited Cameras” for $17.99 on its website for my Plus subscription, yet my account flagged my setup as exceeding the limit.
While I was traveling, another camera powered down when its battery ran low. I swapped the battery and tried to re-sync it; the app said it was paired and ready. But the camera never appeared as an available device.
I will say it, Jimmy Buffett is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. Sadly he is no longer with us, having passed away in 2023. He personified the laid back beach lifestyle and Island Escapisim in much of his music. He worked in Genres like Easy Listening, Folk Rock, Country, Gulf and Western. His fans are referred to as Parrot Heads. For such a prolific musician (30 albums with several certified Gold and Platinum) it is uprising he is not more well known.
I always have a number of Buffett songs on my playlist (usually around fifty or more). I decided to go ahead and correlate a list of favorites by year and album. I am curios what other people think of his works, and which ones end up on their playlists?
(more…)I was originally going to title this “Get Out of Manila”. Then I thought about adding “and the Manila Suburbs”. But I had an epiphany in that all big cities are pretty much the same. So “Get out of the Big City”. I am not saying stay away from cites, just the large ones. In the case of the Philippines cites larger than say 500,000. Unfortunately this takes a lot of tourist destinations off the list.
Let me explain my reasoning. And this really has nothing tom do with the Philippines, and more to do with the nature of big cities. Basically the big city attracts all sorts of people for the wrong reasons. If someone comes to the city from the country, they really need to ask themselves how their skill set translate. For example there is not a large demand for farming skills in the big city.
But I digress from my main point.
