After a lot of research, I finally settled on my first two test cameras to replace two Arlo Pro units that have become basically unusable, the TP-Link Tapo C230. This is how it went.
I originally planned to replace the Living Room and Family Room Arlo cameras with TP-Link Tapo C230 units. But I ran into a problem. Moving the Living Room camera to the extension would place it on a different Arlo base station. Arlo dropped support for the Pro 1 and Pro 2 cameras, so if I disconnect them, they won’t reconnect.
After working with Obsidian for a few days (in a previous video), I realized I needed to adjust a few default settings and plugins to better support my developing workflow. I’ll focus strictly on the technical configuration here, no personal methodology.
On my journey back into Obsidian, I’m focusing on the technical, settings and configuration, not personal methodology. One thing that confused me the first time I tried Obsidian was that some tutorials emphasized workflow before I understood the technical basics.
After using Obsidian for a few days, I wanted to change a few things from the default experience. For example, increase the default font size so it’s easier to read and setting a default start page.
I also want to explore using the templates and daily notes plugins in conjunction to create a simple journal.
To keep this simple and consistent, I’m starting from a default vault in this video. I’m avoiding non-default starting configurations, because they can make the video harder to follow. This won’t cover any advanced setup, but it matches where I am right now.
I decided to replace my Arlo cameras today. They did not break; Arlo changed the rules, and some cameras stopped working.
Recently, one of my Arlo cameras stopped appearing in the Arlo app and web dashboard. I replaced the battery, resynced the camera, and the app confirmed it was active. Then, immediately, the app warned me I had “too many cameras” and I needed a subscription upgrade. This was especially frustrating because Arlo advertises “Unlimited Cameras” for $17.99 on its website for my Plus subscription, yet my account flagged my setup as exceeding the limit.
While I was traveling, another camera powered down when its battery ran low. I swapped the battery and tried to re-sync it; the app said it was paired and ready. But the camera never appeared as an available device.
When I was young and idealistic, most electronics ran on vacuum tubes and a No. 2 pencil was my note writing tool of choice. Paper and pencil served me for decades and still works for field notes, but are less practical in the office. So here I sit, keyboard in hand, trying to wrap my gray matter around this thing called Obsidian. Can this old dog learn new tricks?
I will say it, Jimmy Buffett is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. Sadly he is no longer with us, having passed away in 2023. He personified the laid back beach lifestyle and Island Escapisim in much of his music. He worked in Genres like Easy Listening, Folk Rock, Country, Gulf and Western. His fans are referred to as Parrot Heads. For such a prolific musician (30 albums with several certified Gold and Platinum) it is uprising he is not more well known.
Jimmy Buffett Songs on My Playlist
I always have a number of Buffett songs on my playlist (usually around fifty or more). I decided to go ahead and correlate a list of favorites by year and album. I am curios what other people think of his works, and which ones end up on their playlists?
