I’ve been battling YouTube monetization for a while, and it’s been very frustrating. While I’m not giving up, so far it feels like a string of losing battles. For now I’m shifting my focus back to this site, which I haven’t given enough time tom lately. Until and unless I get monetized, I’ll concentrate more of my efforts here rather than continuing the monetization fight with YouTube and AdSense.
I still plan to release videos at a reduced rate; several are already in progress and I’ll finish them. Going forward I’ll write longer, in-depth articles for this site first and then adapt them into videos; the reverse of my previous process.
Monetization isn’t essential as I am currently able to cover my creator expenses, but it would be helpful. I’m grateful to everyone who’s donated or supported this work in other ways.
The ongoing monetization struggle has made me realize I’ve slipped into a “monetization mindset,” prioritizing quantity over quality. I started this as something to enjoy in retirement, and I want to get back to that. I’ll ignore the monetization carrot and focus on improving content and presentation, which means slower posting rates.
I also plan to explore new ways to engage directly with viewers, such as a scheduled chat or forum. Expect some site reorganization and improvements in the coming months.

With my on going effort to be more active, I want to note that I have purchased my ticket back to then Philippines. So another four or so months and I will be back there for a year or more. Really looking forward to it.

Okay I admit it, I have been sort of ignoring this website. I need to really make an effort to change that. I have been getting a little to caught up in making videos (yes I know my videos are not the highest quality, see the “about this site” and “Doing things for fun”). I think that is because I get more comments and responses coming through Youtube than here. And I find I do like interacting with others. Heck, i don’t even really track how much this site is used. I guess I need to look into that.
As far as news, when I get back to the Philippines in November (was suppose to be next month but stuff came up, great being retired and not holding to a schedule). I will be doing a from scratch rebuild of the network at the house there (the Philippines). Already did a few preliminary planning videos (need to do an article and add links to the videos). After November, I plan to start doing more specific articles on the projects related to this network redesign and update.

The retiredtechie.com web site re-launch after six month hiatus. Things may look only slightly different, but most changes occurred under the hood (on the back end) so to speak. Another change will be the focus. This site should, going forward, be more in tune with other on line activities. Over time I will be re-posting some of the old stuff, along with the new.
