January 19th 2025: CHDK (Canon Hack Development Kit)
Various normal methods have proved to be ineffective at creating a consistent clean HDMI output from the Canon Power-Shot G5X Mark 1. However there is a program/methodology that can be put on a bootable SD card and loaded into the camera memory that might provide additional functionality.
There is an interface on Canon cameras, and some scripting can be done. Over the next few weeks I will be exploring CHDK, which takes advantage of the Canon camera API and loads additional options. Canon seems to have missed the boat on clean HDMI output on many of their older cameras, and this may be the best chance to achieve that. I can understand somewhat, as this is a ten year old camera, and people were not thinking of using these cameras for recording video content. Also sort of explains the absence of a remote microphone jack on the camera.
Will add an update once I figure out if the CHDK system will work the way I want it too.
