Getting older, not necessarily wiser!
In the old days I used to use a percolator on the stove for my morning coffee. Then it was the drip coffee maker for a whole pot. Then it was the pour over for a single cup. However sometimes one is in a hurry, and does not have time for pour over coffee, nor does one want instant coffee. That’s where these single cup drip packets come in handy.
While it by no means makes the greatest cup of coffee I have ever had, it does make a pretty good cup. I know some of the coffee aficionados would beg to differ. But for a fast cup in a rushed morning, I can’t complain.
When I was growing up, we never had these. In fact I did not see them until I started traveling in Asia Pacific extensively. There are quite a few different brands, but the one I am using today came form Japan.
In addition to the packet, all you need is a cup and some hot water. I drink my coffee straight, so no cream or sugar for me.
Once you have your hot water and cup ready, open the packet. You will find a single self contained holder filled with a single serving of coffee inside.
Each brand has a slightly different holding mechanism, the packaging should have some sort of pictorial directions for usage. They are designed to unfold and sit on top of standard coffee cups.
All that is left to do at this point is pour hot water over the coffee. Not to fast, as it can take a few seconds to drain into your cup, and you don’t want to overflow the bag.
For a quick decent cup of coffee, I find these very practical with a rushed schedule. Better than instant, and quicker than most other methods of preparing a single cup.
