Retired Techie Stand Up!

Welcome to the Retired Techie site. This is my first post on this newly created site. I should probably think of something profound to say, but that is not really my style. I am more of a hands on kind of person.

Thinking about it, a lot of what I could write here is more appropriate on the “About” page. Instead I will focus on one of the reasons I decided to set this site up. You can consider this a pet peeves of an old retired person.

I have noticed a trend over the last few decades. Mostly this concerns video content, but I have taken note of similar trends in the written word. When I am searching for information, I don’t want to sift through a lengthy introduction or overview. I want to get right to the heart of the matter. Recently I was searching for a specific piece of information, and with the first dozen sources I had to scroll close to halfway down the page (or advance through a third of a video) to actually get to the subject matter I was interested in.

Almost like a protestant preachers two hour sermon; Introduction to the topic, overview of the topic, related topics, finally the topic itself, and then a summary of the topic. The Catholic services I have attended definitely have the advantage here with introduction – topic – conclusion in about 15 minutes.

I am hoping most of the articles I write will be less like the Protestant and more like the Catholic. Short and to the point.

I will probably also be trying to stay away form multi media. Another pet peeve of mine, every time I have a problematic internet connection, the first half dozen sites I get on a search are now all 4K videos, and don’t stream very well.

Anyway, in line with keeping things short, I will end this first post here. Check out the “About page for more information.
