My grand children love pancakes!
A pancake (hotcake, griddlecake, or flapjack) is a flat thin round cake made from flour based batter and cooked on a hot surface such as a griddle or frying pan.
Pancakes are typically served covered with a sweat syrup, maple being common in the United Starts.
Archaeological evidence suggests that pancakes were probably the earliest and most widespread cereal food eaten.
I find that medium low heart varies from stove to stove. Check the color of your first pancake. if it is too brown lower the heat a little. If it is to light increase the heat a little. After doing this a few times you will become familiar with your stove settings for perfect pancakes.
To lubricate regular frying pans you can use butter, lard, bacon fat, or shorting. Each imparts a unique flavor to the pancake. if you have a non stick frying pan, lubrication is not so important.
Feel free to add seasonal or traditional additional ingredients like chocolate chips, raisins, banana bits, or dried cranberries. Use your imagination. If you are using fruits like apples, you will want to precook them first to make sure they are soft.
You can also add a pinch of spices for flavor variations. groundĀ Nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves are some good examples.
